“The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
― Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!
The Six Flags Read to Succeed Reading program encourages students to engage in recreational reading and rewards them for their efforts. Each child who reads six hours of recreational reading in January and February will earn ticket good for one free admission to a Six Flags Theme park. Students will need to record their reading minutes on the Reading Progress form and give the form to their home room teacher.
We love the Texas 2 x 2 books! Each year a committee of librarians select 20 fabulous books that are recommended reading for PK - second grade. At River Trails we encourage the reading of these wonderful books.
The Children's Round Table of the Texas Association of School Librarians sponsors the Bluebonnet Books. In January the children of Texas will select the winner. To vote, a student must have read a minimum of five of the twenty books on the current list. Any student in grades third, forth, fifth and sixth, and River Trails Staff member who reads twenty Bluebonnet books will receive the Texas Bluebonnet Shirt at River Trails. We encourage parents to read along with their kids.
River Trails has two book fairs each school year, one in the Fall and one in the Spring.
The funds generated from book fairs help to buy books, provide authors visits, and
prizes for our reading promotions. Volunteer help is always needed! Email Mrs. Clifford ([email protected]) if you would like to help.
